Why a dedicated 10-minute timer?
Most phone timers are surrounded by notifications, recent apps, and other distractions. Opening a general timer is often the last step before checking email "just quickly." This timer is designed to remove that friction: full-screen, black background, nothing to look at except the countdown.
What makes this different
- Fullscreen by default: When you start, the interface goes fullscreen and all browser chrome disappears. The only thing on screen is the time remaining.
- No features: No laps, no intervals, no history, no settings. One task: sit quietly for 10 minutes.
- Optional sound: A single soft chime when the timer ends. You can disable it if you're in a shared space.
- Offline: Works without an internet connection. No account required.
How to use it
- Optionally follow the 10-Minute Reset Checklist to settle in.
- Press Start a 10-minute pause.
- Put the screen face-down or use Focus Lock on mobile.
- When the chime sounds, open the End-Prompt Generator before returning to work.
Why 10 minutes?
Research on micro-breaks shows that around 10 minutes is the practical upper bound that consistently improves well-being (vigor up, fatigue down) without disrupting a workday. It's long enough for the nervous system to shift, and short enough that people actually take it. Read the evidence →
